Overview

The McCall MacBain International Fellowships 2027 provide a year-long international experience designed to help young students live and learn in different countries. Participants build intercultural connections, develop independence, creativity, and critical thinking, and address global challenges through diverse experiences. The program takes place across different countries and lasts for one year. Fellows travel to countries that are unfamiliar to them, learn a new language, study at a host institution, complete an internship or work placement, participate in volunteer activities, and live with local hosts.

Who can apply

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 19 to 24 years old. Candidates must be enrolled full-time in a first-entry undergraduate program at McGill University, McMaster University, Dalhousie University, or the University of Manitoba, or be current holders of the MacBain Niagara Falls or McCall Huron County scholarships. Eligible students need a minimum CGPA of 3.0, or 8.0 specifically for McMaster University students. They must also have completed at least three academic terms before departure for degree programs lasting four or more years, or at least two academic terms before departure for degree programs lasting under four years. Applicants must not have met graduation requirements prior to departure, must remain in good academic and general standing with their university, and must not have lived outside Canada independently from parents for eight or more months during the past three years to engage in study, work, volunteering, or travel abroad in a new language or culture.

What you get

Selected fellows receive up to CAD $30,000 to cover expenses associated with studying abroad. Additional financial provisions include a monthly living stipend during academic and language terms, a travel and establishment stipend, a language course allowance, and a medical allowance. Furthermore, tuition fees are waived through the participant's home university, and students are assigned a country contact.

Interested candidates must register or log into an account, start the online application, choose the program name, and respond to eligibility questions.
