Overview

The School of Law at the University of Warwick welcomes applications from outstanding early career researchers for the 2027 round of the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship Scheme. Fellowships start between 1 September 2027 and 1 May 2028. They are intended to give career development opportunities to researchers at a relatively early stage of their academic careers who have a proven research record. Fellows are expected to produce a significant piece of publishable work during their tenure that is not a reworking or extension of their doctoral project, and the fellowship should lead to a more permanent academic position.

The school is inviting expressions of interest, from which it will select one candidate to support in applying to the Leverhulme Trust. It has a strong recent record of backing successful candidates and will provide support through the whole process.

Who can apply

Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria of the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship Scheme. The school looks for an excellent academic record, a strong publications profile, and innovative and ambitious research ideas.

What you get

The fellowship is a full-time, fixed-term post on site, with salary of £35,608 to £46,049 per annum. The selected candidate is supported in developing their fellowship application up to the funder's deadline.

How to apply

Expressions of interest are sent as a single PDF containing a CV of up to two pages with academic qualifications, degree outcomes and research record, the name of a proposed Warwick mentor who has agreed to act, an outline research proposal of up to two pages covering originality, theoretical contexts, methods, resources and planned outputs, and an eligibility statement of up to 200 words.

Key dates

Expressions of interest are due by 12 noon on Monday 30 November 2026. The department will choose its candidate by Monday 7 December 2026, leaving just over two months to finalise the proposal before the Leverhulme Trust deadline of 4pm on Thursday 18 February 2027.
