KITLV Visiting Fellowship 2027 in the Netherlands: Apply for a 3-Month Research Fellowship in Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies
Overview
The KITLV Visiting Fellowship 2027 provides scholars, researchers, and independent academics the chance to spend three months at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asianentures of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies in Leiden, the Netherlands. Hosted by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, the program aims to promote academic research, encourage scientific exchange, and strengthen collaboration in the fields of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies.
Participants can choose between two fellowship periods in 2027. The first period runs from 1 March 2027 to 1 June 2027, and the second period runs from 1 June 2027 to 1 September 2027. Selected fellows dedicate their time to a research project or scholarly publication of their own choice that falls within the institute's research areas.
Who can apply
Scholars, researchers, and independent academics working in Southeast Asian Studies or Caribbean Studies are eligible to apply. Applicants are not required to hold an affiliation with a university or research institute.
Requirements
Applicants must submit a proposal outlining the research or publication work they intend to undertake during their visit. Because the position is not salaried and does not include financial support, applicants must be able to maintain a steady income throughout the duration of the fellowship period.

The application deadline is 14 October 2026, at midnight Central European Time. The first fellowship period takes place from 1 March 2027 to 1 June 2027, and the second fellowship period takes place from 1 June 2027 to 1 September 2027.
