Overview

The KAUST Global Fellowship Program attracts and supports outstanding emerging research leaders from around the world, helping them build a path toward a fully independent career. It is a merit-based programme for excellent postdoctoral researchers with breakthrough ideas that can complement, support and advance the major research priorities of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The programme aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers to address global challenges and create opportunities that benefit humanity. In the university's research-first environment, Global Fellows have full access to world-class research tools, equipment and facilities, and to a strong community of expertise.

What you get

Fellows receive an annual stipend of 75k USD and an annual research budget of up to 40k USD. The package also includes accommodation, childcare and schooling.

Who can apply

The programme is open to applicants of all nationalities. Nominees must meet Saudi Arabia's residency and work permit requirements so that they can obtain a visa and join the fellowship. Applicants must hold a PhD awarded within the last four years and propose independent research aligned with KAUST's research priorities. Proposals must show novelty and innovation beyond the applicant's PhD work or current projects, and should not simply replicate research already underway in the Host PI's lab.

How to apply

Applicants should prepare their research proposal, CV and supporting materials before beginning. The process has two stages, starting with a concept note and followed by a full proposal.

Key dates

The application window opened on September 1, 2026. The deadline for Stage 1, the concept note, was October 1, 2026, and the full proposal deadline is January 15, 2027.
