Overview

The Jane Street Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) 2027 provides support for exceptional doctoral students. The fellowship is offered by Jane Street, an organization that uses a rigorous and quantitative approach to trading on global markets by combining techniques from applied mathematics, statistics, distributed systems, programmable hardware, and machine learning.

Who can apply

Applicants must be doctoral students currently pursuing a PhD, or individuals who have committed to commence a PhD program at a specified university in the Fall of 2027. Eligible fields of study are mathematics, physics, statistics, and electrical engineering and computer science. Candidates must have at least one year remaining in their program.

Recipients must remain in good academic standing as active, full-time members of their PhD program at an accredited, degree-granting research institution located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, or Singapore during the academic year of the award, or the award will be forfeited. Deferrals for medical reasons and other extenuating circumstances may be granted on a case-by-case basis. International students are eligible and encouraged to apply.

What you get

Fellows receive full coverage of tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year. In addition, recipients are awarded a $50,000 USD stipend, or the equivalent in local currency, intended to assist with living expenses while completing the PhD.

Fellows are invited to visit the office to present a talk on a topic of their choice to other fellowship recipients and Jane Street employees, with all expenses paid. This visit is optional. Finalists who do not receive the fellowship are given a $5,000 monetary award.

Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a CV or resume, as well as a brief statement detailing their research or proposed research direction. This statement should be tailored for a generally technical or mathematically inclined audience without requiring field specialization, with a suggested length of one to two pages, though longer submissions are acceptable if necessary. Candidates must also provide contact information for letter writers, whom the organization will contact directly to gather recommendations.

Key dates

The application deadline is November 13, 2026. Applicants must be committed to commence their PhD program in the Fall of 2027, if not already enrolled.
