IQMR 2027 Fellowships in the USA: Fully Funded Research Training Opportunities for Scholars from Africa, Latin America and Beyond
Overview
The Institute for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research offers a two-week training program hosted at Syracuse University in the United States. The institute is designed for graduate students and junior scholars who want to strengthen their skills in qualitative and multi-method research, case studies, interpretive approaches, narrative research, and mixed methods. Participants receive intensive instruction on the techniques, strengths, and limitations of qualitative methods and have opportunities to get constructive feedback on their own research designs.
Who can apply
Fellowship competitions are available for researchers from various regions through separate tracks. A general international competition offers twelve fellowship slots. Dedicated regional competitions provide five slots each for researchers affiliated with African scholarly institutions and Latin American scholarly institutions. An additional competition is planned for scholars based at institutions in the Arab MENA region, and a nomination route is also available through home departments, centres, or schools.
What you get
Selected fellows receive coverage for program participation, lodging, and a meals stipend. Participants stay in modern air-conditioned suites featuring individual bedrooms with private bathrooms alongside shared living and kitchen areas. General competition recipients do not receive travel funding and must arrange and finance their own transportation to and from Syracuse University. Regional fellows selected through the Africa and Latin America competitions receive broader support that also includes round-trip economy-class airfare.
Key dates
The training institute takes place from June 14 to June 25, 2027. The application deadline for the General, Africa, and Latin America fellowship competitions is December 1, 2026. The fee structure for the program is scheduled to be announced by November 15, 2026, while dates and application details for the Arab MENA competition remain to be determined.
