Humboldt Residency Programme 2027: Fully Funded Six-Week International Residency in Germany for Researchers, Creatives and Civil Society Practitioners
Overview
The Humboldt Residency Programme 2027 is an international, interdisciplinary residency taking place in Brandenburg and Berlin, Germany, from August to September 2027. Organised by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the six-week programme brings together twelve participants to explore global challenges through collaboration. The central theme for the 2027 edition is Oceanic Horizons: Navigating the Future of Our Blue Planet.
Participants investigate the relationship between human activities, ocean health, environmental sustainability and the future of the planet. The format features shared working spaces, stakeholder engagements, discussions, excursions and public communication activities. Successful candidates connect academic research with broader social, environmental and political conversations while examining ocean conservation, the blue economy, climate change impacts on coastal communities, and ocean governance.
Who can apply
The opportunity is open to international researchers, Humboldt Foundation alumni, writers, creatives, artists, journalists, civil society practitioners and social entrepreneurs. Applicants must have professional, academic or creative work with a meaningful connection to ocean-related issues and an interest in communicating knowledge beyond traditional academic settings.
The cohort of twelve participants is distributed across three specific categories. Eligible applicants include five alumni of the Humboldt Foundation, three early-career researchers, and four civil society practitioners from various academic disciplines and professional backgrounds.
