Hans de Wit Fellowship 2027–2028 at Boston College, USA: Research Opportunity for Early-Career Higher Education Scholars
Overview
The Hans de Wit Fellowship supports academic mobility and research development for early-career researchers specialising in higher education studies. Established in 2022 with seed funding from World Education Services, the fellowship is hosted by the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College in the United States. One researcher is selected per academic year to spend three months conducting independent research, accessing academic resources, and engaging with an international community of scholars.
Who can apply
Early-career researchers focusing on higher education systems, internationalisation, education policy, institutional development, and related scholarly inquiries are eligible for the programme. Applicants must propose independent research to pursue during the fellowship and explain how their work connects with the intellectual community at the centre.
What you get
The fellowship provides financial assistance and on-campus provisions for a three-month research visit. Selected fellows receive a monthly stipend of US$3,500 to help cover housing and medical insurance. Additionally, the programme covers reimbursement for round-trip economy-class airfare and eligible visa-processing fees. On campus, fellows obtain access to physical and digital library holdings, a designated workspace with printing privileges, and an optional desktop computer. Fellows also participate in seminars, centre activities, and research projects while engaging with the wider Boston College community.
Requirements
Fellows are responsible for finding their own accommodation, organising their own visa arrangements, and managing their visa paperwork independently, though Boston College supplies institutional support documentation.
Key dates
Applications are due by 15 November 2026. The physical campus visit takes place for three months between September and June, falling within the broader September-to-August fellowship year.
