EPFL AI Center and Swiss AI Initiative Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026: Research Funding in Switzerland for International Researchers
Overview
The EPFL AI Center and Swiss AI Initiative Postdoctoral Fellowships offer early-career researchers an opportunity to advance artificial intelligence research in Switzerland. Hosted by the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, the programme supports interdisciplinary AI research projects developed in collaboration with multiple laboratories. The fellowship contributes to the mission of the EPFL AI Center by attracting talented researchers to help advance AI capabilities and explore new applications across science and technology.
Who can apply
Applicants of any nationality may apply to the programme. The fellowship is designed for early-career researchers with strong academic records, demonstrated research potential, and a commitment to advancing artificial intelligence across scientific disciplines. Eligible final-year PhD candidates are also permitted to apply.
What you get
Selected fellows receive a funding contribution of approximately 50 percent of the postdoctoral researcher salary, with the remaining portion covered by the host laboratories. Additionally, fellows receive up to CHF 5,000 per fellowship year for specified eligible research expenses. The programme allows fellows to develop their own research agendas, engage with a wider AI research community, and collaborate with at least two EPFL laboratories headed by faculty members affiliated with the EPFL AI Center.
Requirements
Applicants must propose an interdisciplinary research arrangement involving at least two eligible EPFL laboratories. Projects should address a meaningful scientific question, demonstrate originality, and consider ethical issues such as bias, privacy, and fairness in artificial intelligence research.
Key dates
The third call for applications closes on 9 November 2026 at 17:00 Central European Time.
