Call for Applications: GovAI UK Summer Fellowship 2027: Applied Track
Overview
The GovAI UK Summer Fellowship 2027 Applied Track is a three-month professional programme designed to accelerate careers in AI governance and policy. Taking place in London, the fellowship provides practical experience, professional development, and mentorship for individuals seeking to contribute to the responsible governance of advanced artificial intelligence through non-research roles. Fellows work on practical projects addressing organizational, policy, and operational challenges proposed by GovAI and partner organizations such as the UK AI Security Institute, Longview Philanthropy, Coefficient Giving, the Safe AI Forum, Far.AI, and the Oxford Martin School AI Governance Initiative.
Who can apply
The programme welcomes emerging professionals and experienced practitioners from diverse backgrounds including government, academia, industry, startups, media, and civil society. Relevant experience may encompass communications, public policy, events management, research and programme management, organizational operations, fundraising, and project coordination. Candidates from unconventional backgrounds are encouraged to apply if they demonstrate strong potential and a commitment to responsible AI governance. Temporary work visa sponsorship is available for eligible international applicants.
What you get
Selected fellows receive a total salary of £14,000 for the duration of the fellowship, along with financial support toward travel to London, weekday lunches at the London office, and a dedicated office workspace. Additional benefits include professional mentorship, networking opportunities, exposure to leading AI governance experts, and participation in weekly seminars, skills workshops, and expert question-and-answer sessions.
Requirements
The opportunity is designed as a full-time, in-person position based in London, though fellows with caring responsibilities may work remotely for up to two days per week without altering their hours or salary. Candidates should demonstrate relevant professional knowledge and practical skills, evidence of high-quality work outputs, sound decision-making abilities, and strong collaboration skills. Applicants must participate in a multi-stage selection process consisting of an initial written application and automated reasoning assessment, a paid remote work test, and final remote interviews with reference checks.
Key dates
The application deadline is Sunday, 22 November 2026, at 11:59 PM UK time. Invitations for the paid work assessment are expected in January 2027, with final interviews and reference checks taking place in February 2027. Final decisions are anticipated in March 2027, and the fellowship runs from 7 June to 27 August 2027.
