British Heart Foundation Funded Daphne Jackson Research Fellowships
Overview
The Daphne Jackson Trust is inviting applications for up to two British Heart Foundation Daphne Jackson Research Fellowships, which can be held at any UK university or research institute. The fellowships are for people who want to return to cardiovascular research after a career break from research of two years or more. They last three years and are usually part time, though candidates can now choose to start part time and gradually increase to full time over the three years.
The British Heart Foundation is the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK and provides flexible personal awards that keep talented scientists in academia and let researchers return to the laboratory after a break. Daphne Jackson Fellowships offer a way back into research after a break of at least two years for family, caring or health reasons, combining a personalised programme of retraining and mentorship so that skills and talent are not lost.
Who can apply
Applicants should have a PhD and preferably postdoctoral experience, and must be returning to an area of cardiovascular research after a career break of two years or more.
What you get
The salary runs from 34,308 to 39,745 GBP per year pro rata, depending on qualifications, between spinal points 29 and 34 of the higher education single pay spine.
How to apply
Applicants complete the CV, personal details and personal statement forms on the Trust's website, outline their research interest, identify the department where they wish to work and name a potential supervisor who is willing to support the application, then email the submission to the Trust office marked as a BHF Research Fellowship application. After shortlisting by the Trust, the British Heart Foundation runs its own internal selection to identify suitable candidates.
Key dates
The closing date is Tuesday 17 November 2026.
