Overview

The Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) Programme 2027-2028 is a fully funded fellowship focused on inequalities, based at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science. It invites policymakers, researchers, activists, practitioners, artists and movement-builders from around the world. The programme is recruiting its eleventh cohort and is aimed at mid-career social-change leaders with at least seven years of experience challenging inequalities.

Applications are accepted from people working on any area of social and economic equity, including economic and social rights, sustainability and environmental justice, tax justice, women's, minority and disability rights, education, public policy, housing, labour rights, community organising, arts and culture, and peacebuilding. Launched in 2016, the programme marks its tenth anniversary in 2026-2027 and aims to build a community of 400 Fellows over two decades. Its first ten cohorts brought together over 160 change-makers from 60 countries.

Who can apply

Residential Fellows must qualify for admission to the LSE MSc in Inequalities and Social Science, which requires a 2:1 degree or equivalent in any discipline, and meet the Higher English language requirement. They need at least seven years of experience advancing equitable solutions to inequality. People with a PhD, a master's completed within the past three years, or current degree students are not normally considered for this track.

Non-Residential Fellows must meet the Standard English language requirement. This track is inclusive of non-traditional applicants, whether they hold an undergraduate degree or not, and is open to those with postgraduate degrees. Applicants enrolled in a degree are considered only if their studies end before the fellowship year begins in September.

The programme particularly wants to support candidates who live in the Global South, come from marginalised or historically underrepresented groups, or lack the resources to finance such participation and have not had significant access to fellowships or scholarships.

Key dates

Applications for the 2027-28 cohort close at 5.00pm GMT on 11 January 2027. Late applications are not accepted.
