Applications Open Now| University of Liverpool 2027 PhD Scholarships: Fully Funded 4-Year Accounting and Finance Fellowships
Overview
The University of Liverpool Management School offers fully funded four-year Graduate Teaching Fellowships for individuals planning to begin a full-time PhD in Accounting and Finance in October 2027. This fellowship combines doctoral research with formal higher education teacher training, practical teaching experience, and financial support.
Fellows undertake a fixed number of teaching hours alongside their PhD studies. During the first year, participants complete a short teacher training programme provided by the university alongside specific research modules, gaining practical skills through mentoring and classroom involvement. In subsequent years, fellows continue their research to complete their doctoral thesis.
Who can apply
This opportunity is open to full-time PhD students from anywhere in the world. Applicants must hold a UK master's degree or an international equivalent in accounting and finance or a related discipline, with a qualification at merit level or above preferred. Candidates are also expected to show quantitative and programming skills, which are particularly relevant for research involving FinTech, machine learning, data analysis, or financial econometrics.
What you get
Selected fellows receive full coverage of their PhD programme fees for four years. In addition, recipients are provided an annual maintenance grant of £21,805 for four years, which is based on the 2026/27 rate and subject to change. The package also includes higher education teacher training, mentored classroom involvement, and opportunities to build academic and pedagogical skills.
Requirements
Applicants must submit a strong research proposal within a relevant Accounting and Finance research area, such as corporate finance and accounting, asset pricing and investment, international financial markets and the macroeconomy, or financial technology. Required application materials include a personal statement, a curriculum vitae, a copy of the highest degree transcript, and a research proposal. Candidates also have the option to suggest potential supervisors.
How to apply
The application process requires completing a preliminary stage before any formal submission. Interested candidates must first fill out the designated Graduate Teaching Fellowship interest form and submit their supporting documents. Applicants who bypass this initial interest process will not be considered for the fellowship. Suitable candidates are subsequently contacted and invited to submit a formal application.
Key dates
The deadline to express interest by completing the Graduate Teaching Fellowship interest form and submitting supporting materials is Friday, 27 November 2026 at 5:00 PM UK time. The PhD programme itself is scheduled to begin in October 2027.
