Overview

The AIRC Non-Resident Research Fellowship in AI and Social Sciences 2027 offers an intensive four-month programme at the AI Research Centre at Woxsen University. This opportunity engages early-career researchers in exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and the social sciences. Participants translate their academic studies into publishable outputs designed for industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and the broader public. Each participant affiliates with one of the Centre research clusters to pursue a research agenda that matches the goals of the Centre and the scholar's doctoral or postdoctoral background.

Who can apply

Applicants must hold an academic background in a relevant discipline connected to AI and the social sciences and possess publishable standard written English. Eligible candidates must meet specific academic qualifications by having completed an MPhil, MS, or research master's degree representing 18 years of education or its international equivalent, a completed doctorate, or current enrolment in a PhD programme. Candidates need a publication record consisting of at least two published pieces in recognized outlets, which may include journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, working papers, policy briefs, or opinion pieces. Additionally, applicants must be able to commit approximately eight to ten hours per week for the duration of the four-month programme.

What you get

This fellowship is an honorary and unpaid appointment. It provides support through institutional affiliation, editorial feedback, and the development of meaningful research outputs.

Requirements

Participants must submit a research proposal of 1,000 to 1,500 words outlining their research question, methodology, relevance to the chosen cluster, expected contribution, and a four-month work plan. A statement of purpose of up to 500 words is required to explain the applicant's motivation, suitability for the programme, and intended use of the research outputs. Candidates must also provide a curriculum vitae of up to three pages detailing their academic background, research experience, and publication list. Other mandatory materials include one published or near-final writing sample, preferably single-authored, proof of current PhD enrolment or completed degree qualification, and the contact details for one academic referee, preferably a research supervisor.
