Overview

The IATSS Forum is an intensive eight-week international leadership development programme held in Japan for young professionals and emerging leaders from Asia. The initiative focuses on co-creative and collaborative leadership, cross-cultural understanding, and sustainable regional development. Participants engage in lectures, group discussions, meetings, and learning activities while sharing their professional expertise and perspectives with peers from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

Who can apply

The programme seeks young professionals and emerging leaders from Asia who have demonstrated leadership experience or potential, understand the challenges facing their communities and countries, and possess a strong desire to create positive change. Ideal candidates are aware of local social, economic, environmental, institutional, or developmental issues and are motivated to take leadership roles in addressing them. Applicants must also be willing to collaborate with individuals from different cultures and professional backgrounds, recognize team member strengths, and use the knowledge and networks gained to benefit society.

Key dates

The programme offers two possible eight-week sessions in 2027, which are the 71st IATSS Forum scheduled from May to July 2027 and the 72nd IATSS Forum scheduled from September to November 2027. The programme schedule and timeframe may be subject to change, and applicants cannot guarantee or select which programme period they will ultimately be assigned to. The application period runs from 1 June 2026 to 30 September 2026, with the application deadline falling on 30 September 2026.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through the designated online application process, as submissions by email are not accepted. The application process requires several documents, including an application form, a basic question form, an essay, a recommendation form, and proof of English proficiency where applicable. Because certain documents require coordination with an employer or direct supervisor, applicants are encouraged to prepare their materials well before the deadline.
