Overview

The 2027 Indigenous Youth Fellowship is organized by Cultural Survival to support Indigenous youth who want to lead creative, multidisciplinary, and community-driven projects. The initiative addresses issues affecting Indigenous communities while strengthening cultural identity, leadership abilities, and community impact. Projects focus in particular on climate change solutions, culture and languages, and lands and livelihoods, allowing participants to develop practical solutions, preserve traditional knowledge, amplify community voices, and bring local concerns into wider regional and global discussions.

What you get

Selected fellows receive financial support ranging from US$2,500 to US$5,000, depending on the size of the proposed project. In addition to funding, the fellowship provides opportunities for leadership development, mentorship, and community engagement. Selected fellows work closely with Cultural Survival staff and a local mentor who voluntarily provides guidance, encouragement, and feedback throughout the three to six-month project duration.

Who can apply

Eligible applicants include Indigenous individuals and groups of young people who are passionate about protecting Indigenous cultures, revitalising traditional languages, addressing climate change, defending Indigenous lands, or strengthening community livelihoods. Applications are accepted in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.

How to apply

Eligible applicants should review the fellowship requirements, identify a relevant community need, develop a project proposal, and submit their application through Cultural Survival’s official Good Grants application platform.

Key dates

The application opens on October 4, 2026. The application deadline is October 25, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Selected fellows will be announced on December 4, 2026.
