Overview

The History and Political Economy Project at New York University offers the Histories and Futures of Global Governance Fellowship for researchers specializing in history and related disciplines. Two visiting fellowships are available for a nine-month academic period running from September 2027 to May 2028. The programme aims to support scholars in advancing their research on the historical foundations, contemporary challenges, and future possibilities of global economic governance while engaging with an active academic community.

Who can apply

The opportunity is open to scholars holding a PhD in history or a related field where history is the primary disciplinary orientation, with a preference for early-career researchers. Candidates from related fields are considered if their work maintains a strong historical focus aligned with global governance and political economy. Selected fellows are required to reside in New York during the duration of the programme.

What you get

Successful participants receive a monthly stipend of US$4,500 along with a housing stipend for the duration of the fellowship stay. Fellows are granted visiting scholar status with access to university facilities, research databases, and libraries. Additional provisions include a shared office space at the Remarque Institute at New York University and opportunities to collaborate with affiliated scholars.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a completed official application form, an up-to-date curriculum vitae, and a research description of no more than five double-spaced pages detailing the proposed work. Additionally, candidates must provide the names of two academic references who are required to submit reference letters by the application deadline.

How to apply

Interested candidates must submit the required application materials through the online application portal provided by the History and Political Economy Project. Both the application documents and the reference letters must be submitted by the stated deadline.

Key dates

The application deadline is 4 January 2027. Interviews may occur during the winter break, and successful applicants are expected to receive offers by the end of February 2027. The fellowship runs from September 2027 to May 2028.
